I think that's over and above what 95% of the shops out there would do.
(Not that this fact hasn't stopped me in some other endeavors.)
It's been a long time since I've worked with truly lousy tape drives (like
that on a Basic 4) where the backup took hours and you had a beer if it
was successful.
Jim pointed out some good points about tape drive statistics from
PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) VOLTYPE(3590). Don't let the 3590 confuse you.
We use it for our lto3 tapes also.

You may wish to try adding midrange-l to your contact list. Replying to
an old message to start a new thread used to look funny in the archives
although your post didn't follow that trend. Replying to an old message
to start a new thread AND INCLUDING HISTORY has probably sent a few blood
pressures rising. There's other ways to find a job in our market than by
killing off those with high blood pressure.
