Evan, Respins really do not bring anything to the table, over and above
cumes and groups, for an installation running that level of the OS
already. For example, if you are running 7.1 I would not overlay it with
a new respin of 7.1. You would be better served by applying the latest
cume and groups. Which, you would have to do anyway after applying that
respin! Now, if they came out with 7.1.1 I might but that's different
than a respin.
Where a respin shines is generating a new lpar, or a new system. A new
system may have hardware requirements that require the new respin or you
couldn't even get to the point to apply a cume after putting on the old
spin. A new lpar may save steps because, frankly, some of those
"technology refresh" ptf's are a PITA to apply. Rolling a refresh into a
respin is a Godsend and greatly simplifies the process.
