Jeff,

You definitely need Fax V5R7 for IBM i 7.1. You can optionally use
Fax V5R7 or FAX V5R2 on IBM i 6.1. There are a bunch of PTFs needed for FAX
on both 6.1 and 7.1 that I would HIGHLY recommend you get for your machine.
There are some programs that won't convert to 6.1 (Re-encapsulate) unless
you have the PTFs which provide a few new copies of the programs with
observability/creation data.

IN addition, if you are converting from Power5 hardware to Power6/7
hardware you will need some of those PTFs for the modem support required by
FAX/400.

I have had absolutely no problems with Fax at any of the above
scenarios after getting all the PTFs.

Pete

Subject: V7R1 with 5798-FAX

All,

I'm getting ready to go to V7R1 and stumbled onto something yesterday.

I use 5798-FAX at V5R2. I'm signed up for various PTF emails from IBM. I
got one for "System i Recommended Fixes - IBM Facsimile Support for iSeries"
that listed PTFs for 5798-FAX V5R2 and 5798-FAX V5R7. I didn't even know
there was a V5R7!

Anyway, the email says that 5798-FAX V5R7 is required for V7R1 of the OS.

Can anyone confirm or deny? There is no 5798-FAX period on the V7R1 install
DVDs (nor on the V6R1 install DVDs either, for that matter).

Thanks.
