V7 will have been GA for a full year in April. It has had it's fair share
of cume's out. It is NOT bleeding edge. There are only a handful of 8XX
boxes that will run V6 and not V7 and they are all documented here:

I'd say that if you are going to the hassle of the object conversion
needed for V6 then I see no reason to stop there and not go to V7. And,
