I'll just bring the work laptop that's been sitting at home.
Wouldn't you like to just leave your laptop at home and use a desktop at
work? Perhaps it's the added expense of two machines for each user
that's the compelling reason for your Dekko's policy.
Now if you travel a lot, it make sense to tote around a laptop. If you
don't, it doesn't.

Try showing up at that backup site and find out they have 3 PC's, all
running Windows 3.1, for the 3 dozen people who showed up to work and
you can see the benefits of bringing your own - even if your important
data is on network drives.

Rob,
When I started here 11 years ago they wanted to give me a laptop and I
talked them out of it; and I still don't carry one. And because I
don't, and because my car is 13 years old, I usually just leave the
ignition key on the floor except if I'm in the city (Chicago).
I can't really think of anything on my work PC that would help in a DR;
I try to keep important files on network drives.

Bryan,
Our entire department has laptops. We are required to take them home on
a nightly basis. It's part of our DR plan. If our building fries we
can take our laptops to our backup site. This tends to keep our home PC
up to date also. :-) I suggest to those who commute to store their car
keys in the laptop case. It's a bear to get to work and realize you
forgot your laptop. But I only work about 4 country miles from home.
Only 1 light, 1 stop sign and 1 RR track.
For home use I also suggest using a Citrix or Remote Workstation Client.
Much faster, especially for Client Server type of applications like
Lotus and that genre. Also helps those update issues.
