I can handle the software side and have nearly all of that sorted out.
It was the 595 rack move that I was concerned with. I understand what
you mean about "point". Now I have a better feel for what needs to be
done.

Just in case, I intend to have two complete backups on hand.

Thank you!

Subject: Re: Partitioning a 525

As long as the software(LIC/OS) on the LPARs-to-be on the 0595's
supports
the hardware on the 525, then I see no problem.

I will take some planning when creating the LPAR's on the HMC to make
sure
you "point" to the correct load source, etc.

One other consideration is that the system serial number will change and

that may effect both 3rd party and IBM lic keys.

I've done it, and it was not that hard to do.

We have a 525 that is not partioned using Ops Console.
We are going to add an HMC since we need to "move" several lpars from
another box to this one.
We keep our lpars separated by 595 racks. Is it feasible to simply
"unplug" the 595 from a 550 and move it to the 525, do the lpar stuff
on
the HMC and expect it to come up? (someone is saying it is that
simple,
and I don't quite buy it.)
