Direct connect has served me very well for many years, especially using the Personal Communications version that has been easier to set up. But I recognize the benefits of the LAN console, so will change to that - especially since it is going away, as Pete said.

That link is great but has much more information than I need, I think - feeling overloaded by it and don't really want to sift out what I need. If it were a brand new box, hey, I'd use it right now!!

Forget about direct console. That's dead. Lan console (on a single lpar machine) is better.
