That requires that you give the vendor an ID which has the authority to run
commands on your system.

You do realize that you can call a system command through the FTP port,
don't you? We do it all the time in our internal XFEROBJ and XFERLIB
utilities: we send a save file containing what we're transferring, then
send the appropriate restore command.
