I am doing my best to bite my tongue, but I shouldn't need to apply fixes to
my fix process so I can apply other fixes. IBM, your approach to applying
updates to an IBM i is to complicated!!!!!!!! Doing my best not to compare
it to the simplicity of applying updates to my Linux machines.

Aaron,

I'll admit that I, too, once thought along these lines. But that was before I became (among other things) the sys admin (that's a joke!) for out System i and had to do it (and release upgrades) several times. But it's pretty easy actually. Part of the "problem" is that IBM provides so many options for downloading the PTF's. Once you decide on a method for that, document it and stick to it - until you find a better way (e.g., I changed mine when image catalogues came out).

Rob, I think, suggested/mentioned image catalogues and FTP. This is the method that I use, even for individual fixes. This method is pretty easy. Just tell IBM, when logging into Fix Central, that you want to get the PTF(s) via FTP. They will then send you a notice with all of the stuff you need to make the connect and download.

Never done Linux updates, but I bet I'd be cursing those **** Linux geeks the first time I tried.
