I really don't know SAN. What intrigues me is the SAN they are using
between blade servers here. They replication stuff automatically between
units. No Mimix type solution or anything. Very interesting. I suspect
SANs open you up to other replication opportunities versus internal disk.
But I am also not familiar with IBM's "Geographical Mirroring" and other
tools of that genre. I have always used internal disks. But I have the
technical knowledge to add disk drives while the system is live. Although
on this wonderful platform it's not really rocket science. I am sure that
SAN's have this capability.

I'd find out what SAN's are supported first.

I believe that the maintenance on internal disk is included.

We have a simple SAN switch for sharing a fiber attached IBM tape drive
between boxes and lpars. You mention the word SAN on a support line call
and IBM may try to hit you up for $10,000 for a SAN support contract. They
tried that with me. I think there are those who feel that SAN implies
limitless pockets.
