Multiple lpars are nice. None of our boxes are a single lpar box. However
we don't have our HA lpar on the same box as our primary lpar. Sooner or
later all lpars on a box will have to go down at the same time: firmware
upgrades, power situations, equipment moves, etc.

Keeping that in mind on one box we only have one primary lpar and the rest
are guested (requires 6.1 on power 6). This allows us to share disk.
Instead of each lpar have 3 four drive raid sets they all share all 12
arms. Guesting on 6.1 with power 6 is not as hardware intensive as the
old 8xx with it's setup. Yes, you still have the controlling partition,
but we have ours do real work.

Yes, it does stretch out downtime when you bring down the guested lpars
and do the full system save on them, then the primary and it's full system
save. Sure we could bypass the full system save on the guests and just
use the images from the primary but I like the ability to be able to
restore piecemeal.
