Looked both places. Zilch, nada. I may have done WRKDIRE wrong, but in any event I agree that using an API, where available, would be better than a direct access if for no other reason than it shields the program from changes to the IBM file. That is, I would hope (expect) that, if the file (QATMSMPTA in this case) changed the API would be updated but my interface in the program would remain the same. I have seen a couple of API interfaces change, but those are documented in the Memo to Users for the new release.

See my previous append (well, previous for me--given the vagaries of
internet delivery you may see it after this one, or not at all). There
is a correct way to do this stuff and then there are all the "well it
works for me" methods.
