Amen brother. A lot of packages finally killed off their old "batch
interface" (remember key to diskette machines?) just before the arrival of
EDI. Interactive was all the rage and it was a bear figuring out how to
feed EDI in or out. Then some of the vendors tried to peddle their own
translator and communicator (like BPCS) instead of using some existing
solution and spending the effort designing interfaces.

Most of the other posts covered items pretty well. Inovis (aka Premenos,
aka Harbinger, aka ACS) is what I used to use years ago when I did EDI
here (now someone else's responsibility) but their pricing scheme is a
shock. We used to run it on a small dedicated machine to get by tiered
pricing games. However the boss just wanted one machine and said shovel
money at it.
