Lukas, how often are you having issues?? You could probably script
something as patrick has suggested. If you scripted it I would probably
want to run it against a test LPAR or test machine or something similiar to
get the (unknowns) worked out. You could download the image files to the
IFS, then add them to an image catalog, perform the ptf updates, then IPL.

I suspect not, due to IPL's that are involved.

No problem. We're not a 24/7 shop.

A weekly PTF install also sounds pretty excessive,
given that cume tapes only come out on a quarterly
basis as I recall.
(I could be wrong about time frame)

No, the issue is that whenever we have an issue with IBM, we'll have
to install and test through several HIPERs, which usually don't solve
the issue. My idea is to proactively install those, in order to
expedite fixtimes with issues. HIPERs are updated lots and lots -
usually a SNDPTFORD *HIPERPKG will download more than one PTF after a
week.

A scheduled SNDPTFORD and then GO PTF / 8 / IPL is easy enough to do,
but i'd prefer a completely automatic approach.
