As you have found out the new Power6 CPUs Chassis do not support IOPs and
SDLC/BSC require a comm card with an IOP.,

You could configure the ECS card for ASCII PPP and either have them dialout
or you dialin. The other is get them on a VPN.

We have just installed a 520 8203 model E4A that replaces our 520 9405.
Our IBM business partner (who shall again remain nameless) was to
configure it so we would lose no capabilities but we can no longer use
SDLC without adding an expansion unit and cards.

We use SDLC to dial into clients' AS/400s . Many of these small clients
are on older models and most have little or no IT staff.

Is there an alternative to SDLC that will still allow i5 to AS/400
connectivity and would not require too much configuration on the target
system

Thank you,
