I don't consider it strange because I'm in the minority that thinks  
using PDM for shorthand commands that have nothing to do with the list  
item against which the command is entered is an inappropriate use of  
the facility.
However, if I'd designed it I'd probably have not bothered validating  
the object, library, or type unless the relevant substitution variable  
was found in the command string (if I found any one of them I'd  
validate them all) but I can see how someone with a similar thought  
process to mine would decide to verify the list item.
