Booth,
I don't know. They show up when I give Default Remote Directory as '/tmp' in
the Site setup of Filezilla. If I leave it blank, the log does not show any
lines from 'CWD /tmp' to 'Error: Disconnected....' (that means that the line
'Status: Retrieving directory..' is followed by line 'Error: Failed to
retrieve..').

Its connecting, so it is finding your target. Where are the commands
after you are connected coming from? Starting with "CWD /tmp"

As you can see from the log, it is unable to retrieve the directorylisting

AS400 is at V5R3.
How all this started was that I was trying to install a 3rd party
on my PC which was using FTP to automatically connect to the as400 andas400.
transfer some files to it and install a part of the software on the
That did not work and I traced it to a failure of FTP. So I was trying tomanually.
see if I can do FTP from my PC to the as400 and transfer the file
And that too did not work.PC
I am sure that it has something to do with the firewall, as I had another
user who is on the same network, try ftp from the command prompt of his
and that worked fine. (He did 'ftp 198.168.100.7' and I have to do 'ftpsite?
65.xx.xxx.xx' as I am not on the same network as the as400).

What is it you are trying to do once you are connected?
Doesn't the file structure show up in the right-side panel of
filezilla? Then use normal up and own navigation with the mouse just as
you would in any file tree.
Drag n drop should just work. What version is the as400?

I was using Quickconnect to connect, but defining the New Site as you
suggested, did not do any good. This is the copy of the log when I
connect:
Status: Connecting to xx.x.xx.xxx:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response: 220-QTCP at as400.
Response: 220 Connection will close if idle more than 50 minutes.
Command: USER xxxxx
Response: 331 Enter password.
Command: PASS ******
Response: 230 xxxxx logged on.
Status: Connected
Status: Retrieving directory listing...
Command: CWD /tmp
Response: 250-NAMEFMT set to 1.
Response: 250 "/tmp" is current directory.
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 Representation type is binary IMAGE.
Command: PASV
Error: Disconnected from server: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

In Filezilla have you used the site manager to define your target
tabs:(Ctrl-S).
In case you haven't:
You want to choose "New site" and then:
The right-side panel has 4 tabs, General, Advanced, Transfer settings,
and Charset. I believe you want to make entries on the first two
AdvancedGeneral = Host, servertype, logontype, user & password. On the
navigatetab you want the Default remote directory. (If you don't know that,
exactly, you can use a 5250 session and the wrklnk command and
itsto the directory you want as a starting directory and then copy that
path and paste it into the Default remote directory. Save it and then
use the "Connect" button to see if its what you want. From then on,
list--just click the site to open it.
That should be all you need.
