I mistyped. We upgraded from SF235 to SF240.

I can make arrangements to go to v7.3 of the HMC but am concerned that
whatever is hindering me now will still be a problem later. It's a 4 hour
round trip travel to the site plus time on-site (and the built-in backup of
the HMC when doing the upgrade last time took almost 3 hours). After all
that, I'd hate to tell the boss that it's still not working. Especially
since the firmware level and the HMC level should be compatible (according
to the IBM link site).

You DOWNGRADED firmware?
V6R1 of HMC is a supported level of HMC for that firmware but it is
recommended by IBM that you upgrade hmc to 7.3
