Jon, I think the proper word is millions, not thousands. One of my clients
turned off their Oracle box at the $16 Million and 8 year mark.

Steve - you've written some odd stuff before but this one tops the list.
how is it a lie? RPG has not been enhanced to include Java features
like managed code and classes ( so RPG code cant be modernized ).
It is a lie because IBM have not said you _have_ to do any such thing.
It is a lie because you won't get _any_ of the things you talk about
when you run this on HP. It's an emulator for goodness sake - not the
second coming - it is not even new! And besides, what the heck has
"managed code and classes" go to do with anything?
And green screen apps take a lot of work to convert to the web. IBM is
actively pushing PHP, which requires a rewrite of your RPG apps. HP
is saying you can use their INFINITE software product to convert your
RPG code to something that uses the Oracle database in place of DB2
and the browser instead of client access.
All true - but this "solution" won't do _anything_ for you that the
simple use of one of the many 5250 browser interfaces will do. Whether
it be Look or one of the other vendors - they can all give you the
same or more.
In other words _all_ you get for the disruption and countless
thousands of dollars you will spend is the the bragging rights to say
you use Oracle!! Whoop de do!
To the others reading this - I for one am not going to waste my time
rehashing this here - I will suggest to you that if you are
disappointed by HP's dishonesty in this ad, then write them and tell
them. I wrote to the BOD - the first time I have _ever_ been incensed
enough to do that. I always had great respect for HP - but not for
this crap.
