I could be wrong, but in a "before insert" trigger program, I was

almost certain we have the ability to alter the record data buffer
before it's passed to the database for insertion.

That is true provided you specify to allow repeating change on the
ADDPFTRG,
that is ALWREPCHG(*YES) is required.
