That said, there are a lot of things that you've had to do on other database
platforms that you won't have to do on the IBM i. Operating system takes
care of a lot of things DBA's usually do on other databases.

I know that the DB2 which runs on z/OS is different from the DB2 which
runs on Linux/Windows. DB2 on "distributed" systems is called UDB. Is
the DB2 on the i the same as UDB, or is it a i-only variant? I ask
because I had heard that DB2 on the i was different from the other DB2
versions. From what my manager is saying, it looks like we are very
likely to move from our z to an i sometime in late 2009 or early 2010. I
don't know if this means that __I__ will get retrained or axed.
