After attending the all-day virtual seminar that iSeries Network hosted yesterday I can see many smaller user groups going away. This event was the next best thing to being there and had all the same functions. Multiple presentations, vendor expo, attendee chat room, a virtual briefcase where you can drop presentations, contact info you collected, messages to/from other attendees. Presenters where some of the names you usually see at COMMON events. Event was hosted by http://www.unisfair.com/products/ if you did not get to attend

a problem I see with user's groups is there are very few speakers
available. Partly because funds are scarce to pay for a presentation.

Maybe if IBM provided meeting space at their local facility, then the
attendance fees could be used, not to pay the hotel, but the speaker.
