Hi David

You don't give us a lot of information to go on !

What OS version are you running ?
What model are you connecting to ?
What error code do you get on the Panel ?
What operating system are you running on the PC ?
Is the machine you're connecting to a new box ?
What are LAN Console configuration parameters ?

If I had to guess I'd bet the error code was good old A6005008 (had that
myself a couple of times recently). I've had to enable the embedded ethernet
ports on at least one machine that was shipped to me to get past this.

You can find more detail on what the error by checking the error detail in
12 & 13 items in the control panel (I have no idea about the correct name
for them)

By far the best reference I have found for Operations console is the
Managing Operations Console PDF:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/systems/topic/iphbx/iphbxbook.pdf

It has a lot more detail on the 65+21 functions and also better detail on
the probable causes of the error.

That said: check your IP addresses again and check your serial number again.

If it is a more recent machine you probably don't need a switch or hub
either.

Regards
Evan Harris

Subject: Connect to Lan Console during D-Mode IPL?

Hi All,

I cannot for the life of me get through a D-mode IPL. I can see in ASMI
that the IPL hangs because it cannot locate the console.

We do not have an HMC or a direct-connect console, just Lan
Console/Operations Console.

I have tried everything I can think of:
* Used 65+21 to set console to Lan Console
* Tried connecting only the laptop and i5 on a hub
* Tried pinging IP we originally set the Lan Console to, as well as
192.168.0.1.

I need to reconfigure my RAID and do a restore, but I cannot make it far
enough into the IPL to get to DST because of this console problem.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks,
Dave
