I don't see a partition type listed anywhere in the IVM. I can click on the serial number and I get to see properties there but there isn't a type.

On the general tab I have this:
Partition name: 10-XXXX
Partition ID: 1 Environment: Virtual I/O Server State: Running
Looks like VIOS to me. I'll proceed assuming that i5/OS isn't installed. Sigh. I thought I was SO close !

Yes. Also, look at the partition type of the existing partition. There
is a special partition type for IBM i partitions.
