Dave,

There's nothing preventing you from using DB2 on i5/OS in the same
manner as you do on other platforms. Do a create schema, create table,
etc. and be on your way. All the pieces are there for you to create a
true RDBMS. If you want to use the i as a database server, you don't
even need to hit the mono-color screen. What is the hangup? Learning the
DB2 proprietary extensions (your words) is no harder than Oracle or SQL
Server.

Or are you complaining about everyone who has run their business
successfully for 20 or 30 years on the same (and hopefully updated)
basic set of programs and file structures (DDL or DDS based)? You do
realize that i5/OS can concurrently accommodate the true RDBMS you want
and the native file access that has been ROI'd forever.

<snip>

What they want and have is a set of RDBMs that have the same basic
architecture/fundamental functionality albeit with propriety extensions.
And they can find A LOT of workers trained to work on those platforms;
easily and at less expensive.
