So if I copy the item master (let's call it IIM) to a special copy like IIM2008 and I have no "HLL" programs that refer to that then others feel it is fair game to delete?

Thanks, you're right. It must be an old habit. A coworker was worried he might delete the file. It didn't occur to me, as it was I who wrote the SQL that used it. I think the problem is caused by thinking RPG, the whole RPG and nothing but RPG.
