Jim,

When we sold off a division one of our last acts in the contract was to
put a new machine in there. I made sure that it had the latest version of
os, the latest cumes and groups, and the latest version of Domino.
Everything was the latest out there, generally available. My thought was
I knew the guy who was coming in and that the machine would probably never
see another cume put on it again.
So, in situations such as yours I would put on the latest and greatest.
Look how long it took them to come from an Advanced 36.

That being said, I would carefully read the Memo to Users on V6R1 and
would definitely complete the ANZOBJCVN first. Also, if they have
compilers I would ensure that they have licences for the right ones.
Especially if they are coming from the S/36 environment. The compilers,
etc were separated out from the package deal formerly known as 5722WDS. A
seat on the S/36 RPG compiler is different from a seat on the RPGLE
compiler.
And the usual caveat about ensuring that the vendors are ready for V6R1.
"Most" of the time if they pass ANZOBJCVN you're good to go. Did have one
vendor that passed that but still wanted us to wait for their latest fix
pack before going to V6R1. But they're a HA vendor, and that's one area
of the system that IBM's really been hammering on.
