Don't think you are looking for the right thing.

You need an entry for the System i in the HOST table for SMTP to start on the System i.

I see an entry for our mail server in the host table on our box.

Theirs, understandably, doesn't have the same name or address as ours.
Nor do I see any reference to the names or IP addresses in the SMTP
configuration on either box.
