I found that consolidating them on one machine, preferably into one lpar,
makes them a lot easier to manage. Upgrading i5/os once versus 100 times,
once for each blade, is much easier. We had 20+ machines scattered to the
four winds. When we consolidated none of the remote plants got their own
lpar. The manpower requirements alone to do upgrades dropped. Now
instead of one or two people having to stay at one location long enough to
do full system save, reclaims, ptf's, and maybe an os upgrade we can all
work at one location at more reasonable shift lengths. Working double
digit hours at the plant in the city with bullet holes from the housing
project across the street was not my idea of a good time. Especially with
silly rules at work that we had to follow that obviously the people across
the street didn't care about.
