Price might be a way. i5/OS Storage is very, very, extremely, very
ugly expensive. If you already have a blade center, using even a
normal IBM entry SAN is a lot cheaper than buying a 525 and stuffing
disks into it

Also: Consolidation Especially when you're migrating away from the
System i, but still need to keep a few legacy applications on it.
Instead of buying a big systems with disks you can't use anywhere, you
can just stuff a POWER6 blade into your bladecenter, use your SAN, and
thus have low overhead for supporting legacy apps..
