The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Steve,
When I saw this article this morning, my first thought was of all of the
news regarding declining sales that you posted here. So I thought,
"This ought to perk Steve up." (sigh)
ILE isn't out-dated. It may work differently from other languages and
have other capabilities, but that's why we pick and choose the
language/tool right for the job. I've done some pretty awesome (to me,
anyway) things with ILE, but nothing to compare with what I've seen
Scott, Jon, Paul, Bob, etc., do.
Ten-character object names? Maybe within ILE RPG, not sure about
Cobol. But SQL on the i5 lets one create long object names with RPG
compatible names.
Sixteen mb user spaces? Upgrade to v6r1.
Yada Yada Yada.
And for all of the other things you think are missing or could be
improved, may I suggest a two pronged approach. First, there's IBM's
Design Change Request at
www-912.ibm.com/r_dir/ReqDesChange.nsf/Request_for_Design_Change. Some
of your wants/needs may not really qualify as DCR's. In that case, post
to the iSociety Requirements system at
http://isociety.common.org/requirements. IBM reviews and reports on
these 3-4 times a year. And, no, you do *not* have to be a member of
COMMON to post a requirement, though you do have to register so that,
when Rochester or Toronto wonder, "Just what the @#$% is he talking
about?" they can get back to you. Microsoft may have something
equivalent (I'll plead ignorance here), but I have long been under the
impression that they did whatever they darn well pleased ("Trust us. We
know what we're doing.").

After the last 8 quarters, this is indeed very good to see. Hopefully the

what with i5/OS starved for investment, I dont see how the system has a
future. ILE is outdated, object names limited to 10 chars, max 16 meg user
spaces, clients like crystal reports only see the 10 char sql procedure
name, sql procedures could be better integrated into the system, ...
