Is there a requirement of the price? Would a deal at a dollar upset them?

Hmm... yeah, it looks like that sentence would require you to sell a piece
of software for the System i. Bummer. Well, sorry for getting everybody
excited. I led myself to believe otherwise because when you go to create a
reservation on the website it asks you how you are going to use the
reservation and there are a lot that makes it sound like you could use it
just to learn new things whereas it wasn't always like that if memory serves
me right.

Such a cool program though. And such cool technology. After your
reservation is up they save an entire instance of your i5/OS to a SAN and
then you can reload that same instance on your next reservation. Reminds me
of VMWare's vmdk files that can be simply copied from one place to another
and started up.

Aaron - it'd be great if this were generally available. But the main page
for the program still has this statement:

IBM offers this feature-rich program at no cost to all active members of the
IBM PartnerWorld. program

Have you seen a different announcement or the same service through another
site?

This site was www.ibm.com/systems/vlp

They do.
Do a google search on IBM Virtual Loaner Program. It started out being only for vendors and the like, but now I think it has opened up some more. Note it isn't for long term but instead for short stints where you need to test your product on a different OS or configuration.

NOTE: Make sure to read the agreement they prompt you with while signing
up.

IMO, this is something IBM should offer to developers. Provide host access to a development server (managed by IBM) with access to all developer tools (based on subscription) and technical support to developers trying to learn new technologies. IBM has done very little to stimulate the development of new programmers on this platform. Access to systems for "play time" is restricted by many employers
(rightfully so, for production servers)...

Are there any System i sites on the Internet that offer accounts for programmers to develop stuff?
