Very true.

However, I've seen a lot of operations staff who had no knowledge of languages other than CL. I've also seen a number of sites that had no compilers (other than CL of course.) In both situations, a small RPG module was practically out of consideration.

And I've seen many other sites that did not have the SQL Dev Kit. Even with a developer who knows RPG and with the RPG compiler, it's still quite a chore to create an RPG module that uses SQL when you have no Dev Kit to help with the compiles.

It's nice to have all the goodies. When you don't, it's nice to know how to survive anyway.
