Trevor,

That's all part of the conference venue selection negotiation....

Our former user group president is now doing this very kind of stuff -
conference planning and negotiation - and every time I mention COMMON and
the fee structures he laughs for hours at me...he can't figure out why
COMMON can't get a better rate for housing, etc.. His conferences get much
better room rates and have the meeting rooms thrown in gratis...etc...kinda
the same way that COMMON does things...oh, and no nuisance fee for
non-conference housing...

Oh well...

Paul,

Some time back I called the resort. The $10 is a resort fee, payable by
EVERY hotel guest, regardless of the conference or event you are attending.

This is not something that COMMON has been able to negotiate away, so you
should probably stop whining at COMMON, and go whine at the resort. Sure, it
is another way of the resort ripping you off, but it is not COMMON that is
in charge of that particular resort fee. They ~have! warned you, so you are
now aware of it.

If you want to take it up with the resort, do so. Or, consider it another
line item like TAX, and consider it buried.

Well, it IS my money. The first time COMMON went to the Gaylord in
Nashville, they tried to nick me for that fee when I checked out. I told
them that I had not been notified in advance, and that I would not pay it.
I
offered to go back to the room and retrieve the water and newspapers and
return them.

I told the front desk manager to either remove the charges or he could
explain to the general manager why American Express was going to call him.
He removed the charges.

If you look at COMMON's registration page now, you will clearly see the
notification about the resort fee. I guess my point is that if they're
going
to hit you with that insult, why not just bury it in the price of the
room?
