You get what you pay for. Cheap tapes are more expensive than quality
tapes. ;-) Use a quality vendor and a quality tape.

Do I need to use IBM tapes? Or would the 36/72G tapes work from online
stores/ebay?

You will need the following tapes:

36 GB DAT72 4-mm tape drives

Data cartridges (write and read):

* IBM DDS3 Data Cartridge (59H3465) 12GB
* IBM DDS4 Data Cartridge (59H4456) 20GB
* IBM DAT72 Data Cartridge (18P7912) 36G

The 36gb should be available from several sources
but my current prices are "about" $20 per cartridge.

I would map a drive and store "most" of my pc files on the
IFS. You could then save them right along with your regular
backup's.

It's dead simple and if you need help, shoot me a note.

Well, now comes the time to purchase a couple 4mm tapes for my
new 515. i
suppose I could start doing backups on it instead of onto DVD rom on my
PC... fit a lot more. :)

Here's my drive:
9258 36GB 4mm Tape Unit

A couple questions

1. I don't suppose there's any way to save "network" files
(like from an XP
machine) onto the tape as well as system stuff?

2. Where's a good place to get a 4mm 36g tape? Would any tape do (ie
non-IBM)? I see some that are 36/72g. Would that work?

Thanks!
