Sometimes you run into really obscure stuff when doing things this way.

For example, years ago we used to save certain subsystem descriptions to a
save file prior to an upgrade. Then we upgraded, then we restored our
subsystem descriptions (sample QBATCH). Our main goal was not to lose the
hundreds of job queue entries. Turns out that our subsystem description
was defined all the way back to V2R1 and had never been "converted". Along
came some release that threw an absolute fit about that. I had to delve
seriously into the work management APIs and export the existing subsystem
description and recreate it. That made it somewhat current.

We still save the subsystem description prior to an upgrade but we never
restore them. So far, we've not lost anything.
