You have to convert mydate into ISO date format
something like this if query/400:

DIGITS(mydate) ... to get it into alpha form
then you substring mm then dd then yy with '/' between each substring

Hmmm...also...what if mydate is 8.0 numeric in the form of ccyymmdd?
