The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.

My initial suggestion would be to upgrade software. Since date fields
have been around since V3R1. However we are just upgrading to our vendors
latest and greatest and they still use numerics for dates.
My second suggestion is to create a view, or a logical file, that converts
that numeric to a date field so that you do not have to put the conversion
into every program that accesses it. I don't think that DDS is smart
enough to make a logical file over this numeric field and make it into a
true date field. SQL could whip that out.
I submitted a DCR to IBM to allow Before Read triggers. This will allow
two things:
1 - Additional security possibilities.
2 - Derived fields.
