Subject: RE: Write to iSeries via ODBC

Alas, I still can't make it work. I use MS Query to get the
file into Excel, change the value of one of the cells and hit
Refresh. The value simply gets over-written to what it was originally.

Of course it does, refresh means refresh the data from the original source.

You're not linking to the data, you're just importing it.

AFAIK, the only way (besides a VBA procedure) to get the data back to the iSeries from Excel is with
the "Transfer data to iSeries" plugin which uses the iSeries Access Data transfer utility.

Note that if you're simply doing a SELECT * from MYFILE in MS Query, then you might find it easier to
use the "Transfer data from iSeries" as that will build the .FDF file you'll need to use for the
Transfer data to iSeries".

If you're not simply pulling an entire file, then you're going to have a more difficult time getting
the data back from Excel. The task may not be possible without a VBA procedure.

"Transfer data to/from iSeries" should appear under the Data menu. If not, look in the archives and
or IBM KB as there's instructions on how to get them to show up.
