From: Jim Franz

Joe - the Web query price includes the original query product which had a
P05 price of $750-$1000 (in that range), although when I got my 520, it
was included in a Express "bundle" and part of the base price.

Hence the QU1 and QU2 products, eh? What was in the original query product?

It's not $1k for only Web query, but $1k for both parts. I'm sure you
don't
care about the old query, but to existing customers it is very important.

Makes sense.

IBM could split the product, but "nothing" comes from IBM in the range of
other platform prices (do the math for the expected sales vs development
cost).

Please be more specific here. I'm VERY interested in various opinions about
pricing, but I'm not sure I understand the sentence (it's Monday morning
after my beloved Flubs got drummed out of the playoffs - I'm none too quick
<grin>).

I'm not aware of any platform that provides a free data analysis tool, yet
some in this thread have hinted they think IBM should give it away.

Yep, this I get. This is a little different than EGL, which is a
development language, although EGL is more properly a 4GL than a simple
tool, so IBM has issues (see my email to Aaron).

It's a license deal w/Info Builders, allows any potential sales to demo a
native browser based query from IBM, and like every other non IBM product
in this area, will cost to fully deploy.
And yes, with lots of users, will require lots of hardware.

I don't have problems with this in general, although I am currently on the
fence about the trend of third party products being "semi-included" as what
seems to be trialware.

I have serveral smaller customers very excited about this refresh, needing
a
modern data analysis tool, and the 2 licenses to start (P05) will be fine.
I absolutely agree this should be in the Developer discount, do wish IBM
had
training ready (not just a brochure-ware demo) to go with the product
announce, like at this fall's Common or the Tech Conf).

Well, I'll update my 270 to run the product. Hopefully with 2GB on the 270
it will at least be serviceable, because I'm not going to pay $1000 to get
it on the 515. I generally don't recommend products that require additional
purchases on the System i, simply because I prefer the philosophy of an
integrated system.

Joe
