Ah frook-monkeys.

I thought this machine had eight mirrored 8.5GB drives (thus giving me 34GB
of storage). No, not so simply kemosabe. I have FIVE 6717 8.5GB drives
with "Device Parity" which I believe is IBM's term for RAID-5.

Display Disk Configuration Protection

Serial Resource
ASP Unit Number Type Model Name Protection
1 Unprotected
1 68-0C87257 6717 074 DD005 Device Parity
2 02-89C8F 6717 074 DD001 Device Parity
3 02-0D124 6717 070 DD004 Device Parity
4 75-0CF177C 6717 074 DD003 Device Parity
5 68-052BE73 6717 074 DD002 Device Parity

Ugh. Well, this is getting to be a very fun project. Although I guess that
means that I could go with three or more likely four 17GB drives and bounce
up to 50GB total. Or I could get six drives and get the same capacity but
with full mirroring. I assume that

Well, I'm in the 'burbs.

Remember that turntable? :)

Absolutely. Okay, I think the answer is to just do my normal backup, then
go with the 17GB drives and a scratch load of V5R4. I'll stay mirrored
with
eight disks and depending on the number of 17GB drives, I can bump up my
DASD a little bit.
