I have got to be missing something here ... I use date data typed fields

on externally described printer
files all the time.

Sorry Jerry - I wasn't clear enough. It is not the base date field support
that I meant - rather the more useful features such as MAPFLD so that you
don't have to use conditioning indicators in order to blank out a lowval
entry etc.
