Our backups were working fine under V5R3 with BRMS console. And I

there were thousands of other BRMS users out there besides me, so the
"completely unusable for deployment" part sorta piqued my interest.

Yeah, but they weren't completely automated (as you needed to start the
console monitor job). Maybe not an issue for a company with it's own
internal IT staff like yours.

For us, as an ISV that sells the System i as part of a solution for
Small Business customers, this didn't work.

I would agree though that I phrased this a bit too broadly :)
