Even a brief answer to this would take pages. Perhaps the most
interesting functionality is the ability to mount a huge number of
file systems. One of my favorites allows the mounting of a remote
file system over SSH.

I would add that RPG is closer to C in the way it works than any other
language. And RPG is better than C in that it has F specs, better
procedure prototypes, built in functions and better string handling.

C and RPG are different tools for different jobs. I don't know how the
statement that RPG has "better procedure prototypes" could be supported
(they seem roughly equivalent to me, and C had function prototypes
decades before RPG did). BIFs are probably translated or expanded in
much the same way as C preprocessor statements.
