Come on, what's a little smoke among friends? When a 50 AMP power MOSFET lets go they toss a flame bigger'n a propane torch and there about as loud as a squib! Did ya know there's 20 of them in there? An now ya know they don't put those UPSs in a real stout metal box for nuthin. :-)

As I recall replacing that isn't trivial but with the drill driver it's not
terrible either.

Another small piece of advise. Use your favorite digital device to take
pictures as you take it apart. If you miss a screw, it means something.
Most importantly the cables tend to look a lot alike and as you are
dismantling things, it all looks very clear, right up until the phone
rings, or another distraction comes along. The pictures make it very clear
how to re-assemble. Also, don't be afraid to label cables BEFORE you pull
them. You would be surprised how many times we have stood there wondering
which one of those stupid power outlet plugs were supposed to be used.

One last warning. If you know what a capacitor is, have a healthy respect
for this stuff. If you are unaware of what a capacitor is and does, you
may find out the hard way. Careful out there in them woods.......
