It depends whether you want to be using the printer.
In our reality, we have in our shipping dep[t, a printer for shipping documents, using a session of a PC in that dept. People elsewhere in the company can go thru the process of creating shipping documents. The 400 knows about that shipping printer because of configuration data in the PC, which is powered on with the printer session alive. If the PC pulls the plug on the printer session, or the PC is powered down, the 400 cannot see the printer that the shipping documents are to go to.

Other PC users on our network have attached printers used exclusively by them. They only need to have 400 printer session open if they need to send 400 reports to their printer.

In theory a PC printer can be attached to the 400 without benefit of a PC, but this requires an interface card that management often not feel like paying for, when a PC will do the same job.

Hi All,

Pls can someone explain me, whether Printer sesssion needs to be kept alway
on while printing on As400.
or can we print directly without keeping the printer session. If it is
possible, Can u pls give me the steps for the same.

Tks,
Vishu
