If your printer session is defined on a pc with Client Access (or iSeries Access) then that session must be "on" for printing (this is usually when printer is directly cabled to the pc). The iSeries is communicating through telnet to the pc and the printer session must be on to redirect the data to the printer. If your definition on the iSeries is a remote outq, or device created with CRTDEVPRT and no Client Access or iSeries Access session involved then the iSeries is communicating directly to the printer or print server equipment (Jet Direct or I-O or similar).
Perhaps you can further define your problem.
