How much downtime? How many upgrades a year do you do? What is "etc."? Saves can be done without downtime at all using virtual tape. Applying PTFs can be done without downtime, except for an IPL. What are your uptime requirements? You have no window for an IPL once a month? In that case, you certainly need an HA solution, but that's got nothing to do with the iSeries. I would say most companies can easily afford one IPL a month. Even if your IPL process takes an hour, that's nearly 99.9% uptime. How much other downtime do you have? And if in your downtime you add your various hardware problems, I can only hearken back to the fact that with all the people on this list, it may be just my impression but it seems that Dekko has more unique hardware problems than everyone else combined.
