Hi: My point is, call it what it IS. If you are selling a new one, it is emphatically NOT an "AS/400". But if you are using one, don't misrepresent the facts. Look on the front of the box if you have to. It does no good in promoting or marketing the platform to "rock back and forth screaming 'it's a Series i'," either. Just about the only thing going for the black boxes at the moment, as I as a non-expert observer see it, is the platform's proud history and loyal customer base. Abandon that combination as if it never existed, in order to avoid using that "last century name", and then just try and get someone to commit corporate funds to a switch from something else. Can't do it on price, can't do it on raw power, can't do it on market penetration, can't do it on eye candy, can't do it on manufacturer's perceived commitment. Thud. Darrell Darrell A. No, but you can't buy a new Olds today. And that's the point - consultants and even IBMers go out to the field and say loudly "The AS/400!" and then mumble "...or iSeries or System i or whatever..." And then quickly make themselves feel better by rocking back and forth and screaming "It's the AS/400!!!! YAAAAAY!!!!"
