Don't put all the blame on 1 company, I still fondly remember all the money I made because a company hired a "BIG NAME CONSULTING COMPANY" to do a study to determine the best MRP/ERP package for them. After 6 months of reviews, meetings, reports, etc etc low and behold they picked the one they were "affiliated" with and brought in 6+ consultants from out of town to do the install and modifications. After 6 months of that they hired the small local consulting firm I worked for to come in and finish it. Me and 2 other people (one part time 20-30 hrs a week) finished (well not really, it was more undo their changes and make the ones the company really wanted) in 6 weeks and we charged less than 1/2 per hour (plus no hotel, food or other expenses) of what they did. I will give you some clues ... we recently get a call from them. They say they been studying lots of different ERP because BPCS has some serious problems & they invite us to a seminar about what they found out about superior alternatives. They studied nothing, they not explaining pros & cons of alternatives, they really in a deal with Microsoft to persuade all their AS/400 customers to leave IBM and go on some vastly inferior ERP on .NET. This same company was formerly a business partner of both SSA and IBM.
